VA Gubernatorial Candidate Promotes Education Reforms: More Choice, More Charters
We are pleased to see it making the news that Virginia Gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell, the state’s former Attorney General, is making education reform a key component of his platform. While most candidates in Virginia (and probably every other state as well), often talk about education, few are willing to step-up and call for substantive reforms that include greater parental choice in education and other educational choices like charter schools.
The Suffolk News Herald reports on Mr. McDonnell’s recent visit to the area, and one of the issues he discussed was the need for education reform.
McDonnell acknowledged the need for improvements in the state’s educational system as a component of expanding economic opportunities citizens of Virginia.
“We should inspire young people to dream big,” he said, noting his platform calls for more charter schools, more school choice and a greater focus on science, technology, engineering and math courses.
We are very glad to see a candidate willing to stand up for school choice and charter schools for Virginia families, and hope that more candidates and lawmakers in every level of government will follow this lead and embrace school choice as a critical part of meaningful education reform.
